The final volume of Berserk is coming this November. Dark Horse announced through Crunchyroll today that it will release Volume 41 of Kentaro Miura's genre-defining epic to comic book shops on Nov. 9, with a wider release to bookstores on Nov. 22. The final volume of the series will be released in a special trade paperback format, which will include a two-sided full color insert.
The volume will have an MSRP of $14.99 USD. "It is with great pride that Dark Horse will release Miura-sensei’s last installment of his masterpiece, Berserk. His creativity and incredible storytelling are unmatched. And to be able to release his final work to his fans is an honor that cannot be understated," said Michael Richardson, the president and founder of Dark Horse Comics. Berserk was first published in 1989. The brutal dark-fantasy story focuses on the struggles of Guts, an intimidating mercenary who is renowned for known for his massive sword and the strength and skill with which he wields it, as he embarks on a long quest for revenge against his former friend and leader, Griffith, a charismatic and idealistic military leader. The series has received widespread critical acclaim and is now regarded as one of the most influential manga series of all time, with the series being cited as a direct inspiration for numerous other popular manga series, including Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan, and countless video games, such as Final Fantasy and Dark Souls. The series came to a sudden end on May 6, 2021, when Miura suddenly passed away due to an acute aortic dissection. The last chapter that Miura worked on was published posthumously in Japan in September, alongside a magazine containing tributes to the departed author from fans and other manga industry professionals. Publisher Hakusensha has not ruled out the possibility of the series continuing under a new author, but has yet to announce anything officially. While Guts' story remains incomplete, the topic of a possible continuation remains contentious among fans, many of whom regard the series as an auteur's work that was defined by Miura's unique vision.
