From its ashes came two different views of how the world should exist.
Joyboy, inspired by the myth of Nika and Ancient Kingdom, wanted to restore the Eternal Flame and use ancient technology to create a world of total freedom: free energy, no slavery, no hunger, and equal opportunity for everyone.
Imu, however, discovered the truth about the past catastrophe. He believed unlimited energy would inevitably lead humanity to destroy itself again. To prevent another apocalypse, which this time would most likely kill everyone, he united the Twenty Kingdoms, defeated Joyboy, erased the Void Century, and created the World Government to control knowledge, limit progress, and maintain stability.
In Imu’s mind:
Freedom leads to extinction, while control preserves the world.
Centuries later, vegapunk uncovers parts of this history and reveals that the ancient war was fought over two ideologies, each with both virtues and flaws. He doesn’t say which side was right.
On the mural it says "the Sun God dances and he leads towards the worlds end". Freedom = destruction. Which is why some believe Nika brings freedom while others believe he brings destruction of the world.(like Loki for example who claims to be Sun God and says he is destined to bring Ragnarok, the end of the world).
