I think the implication is that imu can gift powerful things like that maki armour. It wouldn't be very oda to leave it there, I'd imagine sommers and other knights of god will have different gifted techniques.

Shattered a fucking legendary spear. Crushed his omen armor. My boy sanji, let's fucking kick his ass! So hype man, one piece truly just keeps getting better. Plus now that sanji's and zoro's small arcs are over, next week there will probably be a full on imu chapter with a reveal of the chest or a mixed chapter centered on the overall situation.  We've seen that imu is weakened by the death of someone with a covenant. Could be he goes into "Final form" only to be fully pushed back by the defeat of a pair of god knights. Imu pulls back gunko's covenant to stabilize and retreats back to the abyss, leaving her alive but aged to 80 or whatever her natural age is now given tbe timeline.

The only question is defeat vs kill. Oda has made a point that the strawhats defeat opponents so strongly that they lose the will to fight. But it was Harold's death that impacted imu. Next chapter will be both of them finishing off their opponents, I think, and will end with the setup for the final confrontation.
