It’s also a good example of something feeling impossible when you aren’t ready and the moment when it finally starts feeling like it might. Sanji seem to fully realise about himself now, it will be his last development for a while until he bring up his dream again but zoro seem to not done yet, we dont really get a clear chapter about hoe zoro legit scare of death ,he just keep over come it over and over again. Once oda bring back grimreaper, zoro will get some crazy stuff. Also everything about self realization is start from elbaf as a country, luffy, loki, zoro, sanji all their story is just all about usopp. 

I'm guessing that sanji was getting trained by ivaknov to resist the change from ivaknov's devil fruit. And those hell memories are part of what he went through in ivaknov's training to get to the point where he could actually use conqueror's haki. It’s really interesting. You’d think usopp would have been the one dealing with and solving his self-worth issues (elbaph truthers, there’s still time, hold fast!), but sanji did indeed take a lot of needless punishment both physically and verbally in his previous battles and interactions. I never figured it came from how his family treated him and his resulting lack of self-worth, but as someone suffering from a similar toxic inner monologue, it should have been more obvious in hindsight.

I’d even go further now and say that sanji’s own coping mechanisms mechanism is his perverted antics, looking for a replacement sora as the one person who showed him unconditional love, but doing it in the worst way. Maybe that’ll be adressed next.

Another thing one piece lacks is personal growth like this, it's more about the adventure I know, but it's really great to get a quiet chapter like this solely focused on a character's inner thoughts and growth. 
What me got the most this chapter was the repeated info that he has no idea who ivaknov is. In relation to dragon being the most wanted in the world and a "Danger" to the world nobles this stunned me. He was in impel down and is dragons right (or left) hand. Yet they didn't see the need to tell the gods nights?

Haven't seen this mentioned too much, but can we just say how incredibly creative it was to use killingham's power of nightmare manifestation to bring ivaknov out for this moment. Sanji coming to terms with his lack of self love may be the ultimate point for this fight, but how oda uses sanji's time with ivaknov as a learning moment, and how oda brings ivaknov back as his nightmare is so incredibly creative. But it all tracks and makes sense story-wise and character-wise. 

Oda seams this character upgrade so well! Dude had to be reminded that his death would make the ones he loves vulnerable to love himself as much as he loves others and some are saying ivankov is his nightmare cause hes homophobic. Iva is not his nightmare, his nightmare is the fact that someone was able to see through sanjis scars and made him reevaluate his thought of himself. Oda brilliantly connected that to kiringhams power and physically ended sanjis self hate by making killinghams powers fade away. Beautiful chapter as often.

I remembered the fight with jabra while reading this chapter. Sanji took his attack on purpose so he could deal his own final blow. Sanji lacks self love and is always ready to sacrifice himself for others. I love oda tying it back to the okamas teaching him this lesson too. You got to love how everything that sanji been through, he didn’t fear germa, but ivaknov himself who knew his biggest weakness and having a death wish was obvious throughout the series.

Sanji has been sacrificing himself since the east blue, he took on enel lighting to let usopp and nami escape from the ark maximum, he was ready to sacrifice himself with kuma, whole cake island he wanted to die to save everybody and never once thought about his own self worth. I really liked how oda emphasised this with sanji, you can’t love another person if you don’t love yourself. He would always sacrifice himself for the ladies and his crew, but he never showed true happiness by accepting that love back.

Pudding loves sanji and he couldn’t even see it, due to his lack of self worth. Can’t wait for the next chapter, when sanji becomes the king of love and unlock conquerors haki and defeat killingham for bringing back his hell memories. This was a really great chapter!! We get sanji's character development!! We finally see him appreciate himself! It adds to the reason he decided to sacrifice himself during whole cake island, rather than fight back in zou. I also love that we finally have confirmation: just as mihawk is unofficially zoro's mentor, iva is now sanji's unofficial master/mentor! I also love that this flashback focuses on iva's loyalty and dedication! This was a really good chapter!

I really loved that sanji faced someone with the power to bring what he feared most to life, and that’s what helped him realize why he couldn’t use conqueror’s haki. So peak!  Calling it now all the strawhats will be "King" of something. It was already teased with brooke as the soul king. Luffy's dream is a world where everyone can be a king. It's why everyone thinks hes crazy because typically there can only be one king, or as it's believed in the one piece world, there is no "King of the world".

Sanji will be the king of love. A centaur with ivankov's head and fishnet stockings. Not in my wildest dreams would I have been able to conjure up such monstrosity. As someone who is trying to unlearn allowing myself to take as many hits/anger/disrespect by people who claim to love me because I used to think me loving someone meant I could sacrifice myself again and again if it meant them feeling better, this chapter hit hard because it covers same themes as to why I allowed abuse to happen in the first place. Could genuinely get the title of this chapter tattooed on me. 

I love all the strawhats, but I always considered sanji to be the least relatable to myself. However, this chapter really showed me how wrong I was. One piece has always been a personal escape, but so many things touched upon in this chapter hit really close to home. Scarily close in fact. I really appreciate oda for the wonderful adventure, but I'm just blown away by how he sometimes speaks to his audience on real topics and feelings through his characters.

Anyone else find it a bit weird that killingham has no idea who ivaknov is? Super high up in the rev army which are supposed to be the direct opposites of the god's knights?

I though it was an interesting detail to include. My immediate read was that it was meant to put in perspective one or all of the following: 

1) killingham is relatively new to the knights of god. He might not have enough experience outside the holy land and, as we have seen, celestial dragons don't (generally) seem to concern themselves with details like whose who on the world stage; 

2) the knights of god simply have not taken the revolutionary army as a serious enough threat, delegating it to the marines. Perhaps only those who care to know or have been around long enough know things like that; 

3) killingham has his head in the clouds, a la his devil fruit. He generally comes off as quite aloof, at least when in his kirin form, so it might be a comedic beat that he can't clock ivankov despite it being well within the scope of reason that he should know ivankov by face and name, at least.

Just from interacting with sanji 2 times kuma saw his eagerness to sacrifice himself and sent him to the one place he could learn to love himself. There’s no way he could’ve known iva would be there but I love seeing kuma’s decisions pay off.

This truely was a character chapter decades in the making. Sanji's stubbornness in putting others above himself has been an ongoing background issue since the early grandline. His journey confronting trauma and being unable to break past it without learning to love himself is something that really hits way to close to home. That final panel of sanji had so much fucking aura. It's such a simple panel but just solving your fears like that on a dime and looking down on scum that you know you're about to be done with is an incredibly relatable vibe for those moments when you find self-actualization. I love that iva saw through all of it so long ago.  I know brook/ nami said sanji was always willing to sacrifice himself for others- I just forgot how many times he's shown in the past that he does not value his life

I don't know what the official translation is but "Bow down horseman, your head is too high" was cold. Indeed sanji is really kind inside and that contrasts so much now that it geniunely feels earned and well written, considering the story is rushing. I liked it because the philosophy behind not loving one's self can be a handicap is real. Balancing those emotions inside him and using them to his advantage. Ivankov was cool as always, when he appears he always delivers.

I was wondering about dragon and how he became such a prominent figure from a wimp in god valley. Ivankov giving his life for him is a bold statement, after decades he remains a mystery.  Well the only thing I can thank the god knights for is training zoro and sanji to push their limits and unlock their potential. So happy for sanji to finally deal with the trauma that was lingering deep inside his heart. S/o to iva and the okama queens.

And s/o to oda for creating such stories in a world still full of homophobia and transphobia.  What a MasterClass in fixing an old blindspot and advancing the story and a characters' personal struggle in a single fell swoop. Incredible stuff from oda.

    Sanji wins his duels but does not hurt the okama. Trans women are women after all.

If sanji wants to help luffy, which he is as kind as he is, he will have to love himself first before he can love other people. Its not his fault he was born a prince and came with the most broken hacks and gifts. He absolutely does not have to be ashamed of his royal blood and how his dad scientifically engineered his DNA to be a super human.

The best chef. The kindest person. The strongest prince who is about to be the king of heaven. Oda is cooking. We're gotta eat so well in few weeks. It's going to hit so hard when zaza disappears before the fight is over because sanji has replaced zaza as killingham's fear. My goodness, what an amazing sanji chapter. Man, I love that when you read one piece without ever having blinders on - that the shitty part of the fandom does - you really just enjoy and appreciate the storytelling. Despite sanji being my favorite strawhat, I didn't come away from this chapter thinking he had a "Better" buildup to unlocking coc than zoro; I just think each of them having their own distinct journeys and realizations to finally unlock their conqueror's haki (zoro's sense of self and sanji's love of self) fit their respective characters perfectly. Anyway, I've never been one to compare sanji and zoro (or any other strawhat against another strawhat for that matter) and I've always maintained that the taking of the sanji-zoro rivalry seriously is, quite frankly, the business of manchildren.

We once understood it as sanji never being able to rest for fear of being ambushed by the okama. But it's clear here that he is constantly being taken care of after combat.  I can't lie instead of taking the easier route of having his nightmare be judge or maybe stealth black or even anyone from germa, oda went a step further and made it be ivaknov because he forced him confront his weakness.

When it was leaked that ivaknov would be the one who appeared as his nightmare, I was a bit disappointed that maybe oda was going for a gag but I should've know better to doubt oda like this. What a beautiful way to parallel the struggles and lives of the people of kamabakka kingdom with sanji struggle. I know that some people don't like how oda has done the okama but o think that's a very surface level way to look at it. Even from the beginning, while yes to someone not used them, they appear weird, he has always portrayed quite deftly. One of my favorite lines is from bon chan when he attacks hina to help the straw hats.

This just drilled the point even further home. It doesn't matter how they appear to the world, ultimately you have gotta love yourself to fully reach your potential, whether it's accepting your queer nature, not caring how the world sees you or accepting the love others have shown you even if you feel you don't deserve it as in sanji's case. I think that's a far deeper acknowledgement of this than anyone gives him credit for.
